A one man show plus his WWOOFers, Atsushi taught us about spirit. What makes a good one, and how to put it back into the world. He makes supplements for his fields from the probiotics in natto in his own kitchen, which is a double burner and a sink, no counters, but carpeted floorspace, the same comfy ones which we ate sitting on. He told us he meditated often, but I asked him when, as I never saw him sitting with his eyes closed. He said that full concentration during work was his meditation. Together, three of us sorted a tonne of soybeans, black beans, adzuki with a machine and our hands. We tasted the Niseko melons he was cultivating, unpassable by Brix score but still noteworthy in flavor.
